Summary of Duties:
The Director of Accounting and Financial Operations reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and assists in the preparation of current financial reports as well as summaries and forecasts for future business growth. This position also oversees the day to day activities of the accounting department. This position works in conjunction with the CFO to ensure that all financial functions of the corporation are conducted in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, or other generally accepted basis of accounting, the financial regulations prepared by the Department of Housing and Urban Development and in accordance with financial management techniques and practices appropriate within the real estate industry.
Essential Job Functions:
- Directs the preparation of all financial reports, including income statements, statements of cash flow, balance sheets, reports to shareholders, tax returns and reports for government regulatory agencies.
- Assists the CFO to plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the organization’s financial function and performance.
- Provides technical financial advice and knowledge to other departments.
- Oversees and directs the day to day operations of the accounting department.
- Assists the CFO in the budgeting and the tax projection processes.
- Develops and implements polices and procedures for the department and corporation to ensure efficient financial operations and the protection of corporate assets.
- Reviews opportunities for acquisitions, construction or expansion into new areas.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements by researching existing and new legislation, consulting with outside advisors, and filing financial reports. Advises management of actions and potential risks.
- Conducts cost/benefit analysis and/or breakeven analysis for various projects assigned by the CFO.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance and CPA Certificate required. 5 or more years experience in managing an accounting function in a medium or large size company preferred. Prior auditing and/or construction accounting experience helpful.
