Director of Engineering and Construction Services

LOCATION:

Gene B. Glick Co. Inc Indianapolis

Summary of duties:

The Director of Engineering and Construction Services reports directly to the Senior Vice President for Engineering and Construction and is primarily responsible for preparing and/or coordinating the preparation of construction estimates and budgets; locating qualified sub-contractors and suppliers; obtaining competitive bids; negotiating final terms, conditions and cost; contracting and purchasing all labor, labor materials and supplies for the construction of large scale construction projects.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Works with architects and engineers during the design phase to control construction costs
  • Estimating construction costs
  • Locate qualified subcontractors and suppliers
  • Prepare bid instructions and work scopes
  • Evaluate bids and prepare construction cost summary
  • Executes take-offs of construction documents
  • Obtains pricing for materials
  • Obtains bids from subcontractors
  • Prepares cost analysis in computer by recapitulating material, labor, equipment, subcontractor and overhead costs incurred in the installation of items
  • Prepare contracts and Purchase Orders
  • Review and approve contractor trade payment breakdowns
  • Negotiate and issue Change Orders and addendums
  • Investigate materials and products
  • Negotiates costs, scheduling and scope of utilities and municipal services
  • Maintain job records, files and construction documents
  • Coordinate with Project Superintendent in matters relating to approvals and permits, construction scheduling, contract failures, shop drawing and submittals, approvals, warranties and construction advances in payments
  • Informs immediate supervisor of any observed inaccuracies or omissions in quoted items or computer database.
  • Develops and maintains resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related field and 5-10 years experience preparing cost estimates and negotiating large scale
