INDIANAPOLIS, NOV. 9, 2020 – The National Apartment Association (NAA) recognized Carriage House East, an affordable apartment community owned by the Glick Housing Foundation and managed by the Gene B. Glick Company, as a finalist for its Best Affordable Housing Community of the Year award at its 2020 Excellence Awards. NAA is the leading voice for the rental housing industry with more than 82,000 members.

Carriage House East, located on the far eastside of Indianapolis, has 614 apartment homes and more than 2,000 residents. The Success Center, which opened in 2019, is located at Carriage House East and exists to foster a sense of community for residents through basic needs support, youth development, workforce development and community engagement.

“The Carriage House East team goes above and beyond in supporting residents by creating a community of hope and empowerment,” said Linda Orange, senior vice president, property management at the Gene B. Glick Company. “NAA’s recognition reaffirms what we already know: that Carriage House East is among the best affordable housing communities in the country.”

In selecting Carriage House East for this honor, NAA evaluated the community’s amenities, occupancy and renewal rates, programming, service to residents and impact on the local community.

“Community means to me helping one another, and that’s what we get here at Carriage House East,” said Darlene Watts, resident leader. “The team has helped me to reach goals I didn’t know I had by allowing me to stretch beyond who I thought I was. I’ve been able to take on a leadership role here because of the heartbeat I feel for the community.”

In addition to its service to residents, Carriage House East is also a cornerstone of the Far Eastside Success Initiative whose mission is to lead and support coordinated efforts that break the cycle of poverty by creating youth, family and community success on the far eastside of Indianapolis.

“The one word I would use to describe Carriage House East is rising,” said Watts. “I believe that for years, this side of town has been looked upon as ashes and I think we’re now a phoenix rising from the ashes.”
